Tottenham Hotspur star Tanguy Ndombele opens up on Jose Mourinho criticism
Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Evening Standard), Tottenham Hotspur star Tanguy Ndombele has opened up on criticism levied against him by Jose Mourinho.
The club’s record signing, Ndombele got off to the best of starts lasts season. Having scored on his debut, hopes were high for the Frenchman. Unfortunately, that was the zenith as he suffered from both a loss of form and fitness.
Not one for mincing words, manager Jose Mourinho was critical of Ndombele’s fitness and motivation on a number of occasions.
The midfielder has looked a different beast altogether this season. He has featured much more regularly and appears to be reaching the levels expected of him.
With two goals already this season, the Frenchman has equalled his goal tally from the last campaign. Getting here has not been easy. Ndombele admits that while Mourinho’s words didn’t hurt him, it failed to motivate him as well.
“They didn’t necessarily motivate me either. It was just something that I assimilated and took on board.”
To his credit, Ndombele is ready to let bygones be bygones. He does not shrink back from admitting that Mourinho’s words were unpleasant. However, he is willing to look to the future.
“Of course it’s not something that you like to hear, those sort of words, but that was last season and we are looking to the future.”
He has revealed that Spurs fans are yet to see the best of him. With a new season and a new attitude, he is on the right track.
“I don’t think we have seen the best of Tanguy Ndombele yet. I’m on the right track but there’s still more to come.”
