Tottenham Hotspur keen on Fiorentina midfielder Gaetano Castrovilli

According to FC Inter News (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on Fiorentina star Gaetano Castrovilli.

The 23-year-old midfielder came through the ranks at Minervio and Bari, eventually stepping up to the first team for the latter. He made just 12 appearances for I Galletti before moving to Fiorentina in 2017.

He spent two seasons on loan at Serie B side Cremonese before establishing himself with the Viola last campaign.

Castrovilli made 35 appearances for Fiorentina last season and is now an established member of their first-team squad.

The midfielder has gone a step further and enjoyed a blazing start to the current campaign. He has scored four goals and made one assist in just five appearances so far.

A versatile player, Castrovilli is capable of playing in a variety of positions. Primarily a central midfielder, he can play anywhere in the midfield and can also do a job on the wings.

The youngster’s rise has seen a number of clubs sit up and take notice. Among those in the fray are RB Leipzig, Inter Milan and Napoli.

According to the report, he would cost us around £42million. A significant amount, it would be well worth the risk if he continues to put up the same numbers he has delivered so far this season.

The biggest threat to our hopes of securing him could come from Inter. The Nerazzurri have already opened talks with the player’s entourage about a potential move to the San Siro.

Ironically, Castrovilli has been touted to take the place of former Spurs star Christian Eriksen. The Dane has not yet nailed down a place in the first XI in Milan since leaving us last January.

Castrovilli looks like an excellent player who has the potential to become something special. It is still early days and we would be well served to see how he plays over a larger span of time.

Spurs have made a number of excellent moves in the transfer market in recent months. In Castrovilli, we might have discovered yet another gem. Only time will tell if that is the case.
