Steven Bergwijn and Serge Aurier return to Tottenham Hotspur training
According to the Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur duo Serge Aurier and Steven Bergwijn are back in training.
The duo’s return will give Jose Mourinho more options ahead of the Europa League tie against Royal Antwerp on Thursday night. Both players missed Monday night’s trip to face Burnley with minor knocks.
Thankfully, it did not make a difference as Son Heung-Min ensured we came away with all three points. The win took us to fifth spot, just two off the top.
It was initially feared that neither player would recover in time for the trip to the Bosuilstadion. Thankfully, both of them were seen taking part in a final training session at Hotspur Way before the squad’s trip to Belgium.
Spurs got off to a flyer in their Europa League group stage opener against LASK last week. Summer signing Carlos Vinicius chipped in with two assists as Spurs won the game 3-0.
A win against Antwerp will give us a massive boost in a bid to qualify as group winners. Spurs have been in good form of late and should be expected to come away with all three points.
Antwerp boss Ivan Leko is keen to test himself against a manager of Mourinho’s stature. The Portuguese tactician is rebuilding his reputation at Spurs after a bad spell in charge of Manchester United.
With a solid squad now at his disposal, Mourinho could be on the verge of ending our trophy drought. Doing so would further cement his position among the pantheon of great managers in modern football.
