Hugo Lloris opens up on Tottenham Hotspur defeat in the Europa League
According to the club’s official channels (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur skipper Hugo Lloris has given an honest appraisal of our defeat to Royal Antwerp in the Europa League.
The loss left a sour taste in both Jose Mourinho and Lloris’ mouth. It was our first loss since the opening day loss to Everton in the Premier League.
Spurs lacked cohesion and the attack looked out of sorts. This saw Mourinho take off four players at half-time.
Speaking after the game, Lloris has blamed a lack of intensity for our loss. The defeat leaves us behind the Belgians in second spot in our Europa League group.
“First half we didn’t put enough intensity in the performance, and unfortunately we conceded this goal and then in the second half we increased a bit, it was not enough.”
Lloris believes Spurs handed the initiative to Antwerp. The Belgian giants were not one to let the opportunity pass and took full advantage of it. The Spurs skipper admits it is not good to taste defeat and that the players should have done better.
“The credit belongs to the opponent but I think from the first minute we should have given more.”
Despite the defeat, Lloris has not given up on securing the top spot in the group. There is still enough time for us to overtake Antwerp to the top spot. He is keen to move and focus on the next match.
“There’s still four games to go in this group stage and obviously the target is to finish first, so we will have to make the job.”
