Lucas Alario rejected a summer switch to Tottenham Hotspur
Speaking to TNT Sports (h/t Football.london), football agent Pedro Aldava revealed that his client Lucas Alario rejected a summer switch to Tottenham Hotspur.
The 28-year-old joined Bayer Leverkusen in 2017. He has since gone on to make a name for himself in Germany. In 105 appearances for the club, he has netted 41 goals and set up 13 more for his teammates. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Bringing in a backup striker for Harry Kane was high on the list in our summer shopping spree. It would appear that Alario was among the names considered.
“We had the chance to join Tottenham on loan who are a top side, but to watch the matches from the stands, it didn’t work for us.”
Given his start to the current campaign, it is easy to see why. The Argentine has scored five goals and assisted one another in just seven appearances so far. His performances have Leverkusen stay on as one of the three unbeaten teams in the German top flight so far this season.
Had things turned out differently, Alario could have been impressing in the white of Tottenham. According to the report, he had the opportunity to sign for the North London club on a temporary basis.
However, he decided to stay in Germany, with Spurs instead going on to land Carlos Vinicius from Benfica on a season-long loan.
Alario has also made eight appearances for the Argentina national team, having made his debut in 2016. He has three goals for La Albiceleste (h/t Transfermarkt).

Alario would have been a decent backup for Kane. Vinicius has so far enjoyed mixed results at Spurs. Time will hopefully justify our choice.
