Gaetano Castrovilli keen to stay on at Fiorentina despite Tottenham Hotspur interest
According to Italian publication Gazeta Dello Sport (h/t Football.london), Italian midfielder Gaetano Castrovilli looks set to ignore interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
The Fiorentina star is amongst the most promising young talents in the Italian top-flight. The midfielder came through the ranks at Minervio and Bari before stepping up to the first-team for the latter. He made just 12 appearances for I Galletti before moving to Fiorentina in 2017.
The 23-year-old has been tracked by Spurs for some time. Tottenham scouts were also sent to Italy to watch him in action.
We are not the only team from the Premier League who have been keeping tabs on Castrovilli. Merseyside club Everton are also interested in the £42m-rated player.
However, despite the interest, the player looks set to stay on with the Viola. In fact, he is keen to secure himself a new deal with Fiorentina rather than secure a move away in January.
“Can I renew until 2025? I’d like to. I’m fine in Florence, Fiorentina is like a family for me, so if the opportunity arises, I would certainly be happy.”
A talented player who has improved himself immensely in recent months, it is disheartening to see him not jump at a chance to join us. However, it does not effectively rule out a move in the future.
A versatile player, Castrovilli is capable of playing in a variety of positions. Primarily deployed as a central midfielder, he can play anywhere in the midfield and can also do a job on the wings.
