Clive Allen backs Dele Alli to leave Tottenham Hotspur on loan in January
Speaking to talkSport (h/t The Express), Tottenham Hotspur icon, Clive Allen has declared that a loan spell in January for Dele Alli would be a win-win for both player and club.
The English international made just his third start of the season in our Europa League fixture away to Royal Antwerp on Thursday.
What could be seen as a chance to impress, has instead turned into a nightmare for the midfielder. Alli was withdrawn at half-time after yet another ineffectual performance.
“You can’t keep being substituted at half-time in that manner and not expect something to happen.”
It is the second time in his three starts that Alli has been withdrawn at half-time. If anything, it should set alarm bells ringing regarding his prospects in the starting XI.
Alli has struggled to impose himself under Mourinho. With his prospects no better after Thursday’s performance, Allen believes a move away could help resurrect his career.
“If Spurs are clever they might well loan him to a team where he could start to find form, which he needs, because he’s desperately short of confidence.”
Not only will this help the player get the game time he wants, but he can also boost his confidence. Getting him back with an improved mindset will also benefit us in the long-term.
Secondly, an impressive run of form can also appeal him to potential suitors should we decide to sell him. Still just 24, Alli has the best years of his career ahead of him. As things stand, a change of scenery will do him good.
