Son Heung-min set to travel to Austria for South Korea friendlies

According to the Yonhap News Agency, Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min has been named in the South Korea national team squad for their upcoming friendlies against Mexico and Qatar later this month.

A number of Tottenham players will be jetting off on international duties after this weekend’s set of fixtures and Son will be one among them, after having stayed back at the club during the previous international break.

Indeed, Son hadn’t travelled to South Korea last month for their exhibition matches against the U-23 Olympics team owing to the 14-day quarantine rule for anyone flying into the country. However, there will be no such concerns or restrictions this time out, with the fixtures scheduled to be played in Austria. (h/t YNA)

South Korea will first face Mexico on November 14, before taking on 2022 FIFA World Cup hosts Qatar three days later on November 17. The availability of Son will be a huge boost for Paulo Bento’s side in what will be their first international contest in the calendar year.

The 28-year-old has been in tremendous form in the new season. So far, Son has racked up eight goals in seven Premier League matches, while registering two assists as well. In addition, he has also scored and assisted two goals apiece in the UEFA Europa League (qualifiers included). (h/t Transfermarkt)

Before Son flies off to represent his country, the forward will be involved in the Europa League against Ludogorets on Thursday night and West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League at the weekend. Hopefully, he is able to carry on in the same vein of form over the week.
