Sergio Reguilon opens door to a future return to Real Madrid
Speaking on El Larguero on Cadena Ser (h/t Daily Mail), Tottenham Hotspur defender Sergio Reguilon has hinted that he is open to returning to boyhood club Real Madrid if an opportunity comes up in the future.
The 23-year-old Spanish international joined Tottenham from Real Madrid this past summer in a £30m deal. Although, the La Liga champions did insert a buyback clause into the contract. (h/t Daily Mail)
And now, Reguilon has opened up on his decision to leave his boyhood club, claiming that it was completely his call. The Spanish full-back further added that he wouldn’t be averse to returning to the Santiago Bernabeu in the future. (h/t Daily Mail)
“Madrid is my home and where I grew up. In the future, you never know but the possibility is there… I didn’t speak to the boss, it was more with the club. I know what they think of me, I had to take a decision.”
Reguilon broke through the Real Madrid first-team in 2018, but found game time hard to come by under Zinedine Zidane. He spent the last season on loan at Sevilla, where he went on to win the UEFA Europa League.
This past summer saw him make the jump to north London, joining Tottenham on a five-year contract. However, Spurs were forced to accept a £41m buyback option in the deal. (h/t Daily Mail)

Reguilon has settled in quite quickly at Tottenham and is showing what made the club splash the cash on him this summer. In three Premier League appearances, Reguilon has already assisted two goals, including the winner against Brighton & Hove Albion this past weekend.
Considering how the 23-year-old is performing, Real Madrid might opt to trigger it in the near future.
