Tottenham support Ryan Sessegnon after he suffers disgusting racist abuse online
As reported by the Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur have issued a statement in support of youngster Ryan Sessegnon after the youngster revealed he suffered racist abuse online.
The 20-year-old Sessegnon has been with Tottenham since 2019, having arrived from Fulham. After a difficult debut season with the club, the left-back, who can also play as a winger, was sent out on loan to Bundesliga side TSG Hoffenheim.
Sessegnon made his first side for the club on Monday in a 3-1 defeat to Union Berlin. Post the game, the 20-year-old shared screenshots of vile racist abuses targeted at him on Instagram, with the following caption. (h/t Evening Standard)
“Honestly unbelievable. The craziest thing is I’m not even surprised anymore. Disgusting.”
Tottenham reacted soon after, issuing a statement of solidarity on Twitter. It read:
“Everyone at the club is with you @RyanSessegnon. We are proud of the rich ethnic diversity that exists across our communities, fans, staff and players. We are driven by inclusion and equality for all and nobody should have to endure such repulsive abuse.”

Sessegnon or Tottenham could seek assistance from the Premier League. The league launched a new initiative in June where players can report online abuse, with the league promising to take legal action on behalf of players where appropriate. Hopefully, swift and strict action is taken against those involved.
