Jose Mourinho backs Harry Kane after penalty incident against Brighton & Hove Albion

As reported by Football.london, Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has defended his star striker Harry Kane amidst accusations of diving against Brighton & Hove Albion this past weekend.

The 27-year-old went down after a collision with Adam Lallana, with referee Graham Scott awarding a free-kick after the incident. However, following a VAR review, Tottenham were given a penalty for the incident. And the England captain made no mistake from the spot.

However, since the game, Kane has been accused of diving to win the foul, by the likes of Martin Keown and Gary Lineker. (h/t Football.london)

Mourinho, however, has defended the striker, dismissing suggestions that Kane ‘cleverly’ won that penalty by diving. (h/t Football.london)

“Harry Kane was in a position to control the ball and Lallana came in a reckless fashion. Why are you saying it is clever? Clever is taking the ball and scoring a goal. It’s a foul. What are we talking about being clever? Harry Kane just wants to score goals. Lallana was reckless.”

The Portuguese tactician also lashed out some of our Premier League rivals who have had penalty decision go their way in questionable circumstances in the past. (h/t Football.london)

“Speak about Liverpool, Manchester United, City and others with ‘clever’ players and getting penalties. Don’t speak about Harry Kane.”

The suggestions of Kane buying that penalty with his antics are certainly outlandish. And Mourinho is right in pointing fingers at clubs such as Manchester United, who have had a lot of favourable penalty decisions in the recent past.
