According to Italian publication Calciomercato (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur could be set for a bidding war with rivals Manchester United in January for the signing of Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic.

The 23-year-old Serbian centre-back came through the youth ranks at Partizan Belgrade in his homeland Serbia and joined Fiorentina in the summer of 2017. Since moving to Italy, Milenkovic has made 103 appearances for the Viola, scoring nine goals and assisting one more. (h/t Transfermarkt)

In the ongoing campaign, the Serbian defender has featured seven times in all competitions, contributing with one goal and assist each. He also has 23 appearances for the Serbian national team since making his debut in 2018.

One of the brightest young defenders in the Serie A, Milenkovic has reportedly informed Fiorentina that he does not wish to commit his future to the club. Instead, he has his heart set on a switch to a top club in Serie A or anywhere else in Europe.

This has piqued the interest of both Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, who could be set to battle it out for the centre-back in the January transfer window. (h/t Football.london)

Tottenham strengthened the backline with the addition of Welshman Joe Rodon late in the summer transfer window. However, Davinson Sanchez’s form remains a concern for Jose Mourinho & co. while Japhet Tanganga has had to deal with quite a few injuries this term.

Thus, a new centre-back might come up on the agenda in January, depending on where the club stands at the time. Milenkovic, to that end, would be a viable option, given his age and exposure to top-level football.

However, it remains to be seen if Spurs do make a move for the Serbian in the winter.
