Glenn Hoddle advises Jose Mourinho to use Gareth Bale in a new position
As reported by Football.london, Tottenham Hotspur legend Glenn Hoddle has urged manager Jose Mourinho to deploy star attacker Gareth Bale in a more central role moving forward.
The 31-year-old Wales international returned to Tottenham Hotspur seven years after leaving the club for Real Madrid. Having signed on a one-year loan deal, Bale is starting to get into his groove for Spurs over the past week.
The all-time leading goalscorer for the Wales national team scored the first of his second spell at Tottenham last weekend, with his header proving to be the match-winner against Brighton & Hove Albion.
Bale started and impressed in midweek against Ludogorets as well, with a particular highlight being his involvement in the lead-up to Lucas Moura’s goal in the first period. The 31-year-old collected the ball in a central role before finding Harry Kane with a fine pass, who set Moura up for the goal.
And Hoddle, who was on punditry duty on BT Sport, has insisted that Mourinho could unlock Bale by using him in a more central role in the future. (h/t Football.london)
“What we saw tonight, drifting into the little pocket, the number 10 position, and then hurting the opposition, that’s where I see him. I don’t see him out wide on the right, or the left, but I think there’s a combination, eventually Son, Bale and Kane, it’ll be as good as anything in the country.”

Bale was used in the No. 10 role for a while during his time at Real Madrid by Rafael Benitez. It will be interesting to see if Mourinho pays heed to Hoddle’s advice and uses Bale more centrally.
