Kurt Zouma was open to the idea of joining Tottenham in the summer
Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma was open to the idea of joining Tottenham before the start of the season, according to L’Equipe via Sport Witness (h/t Football.london).
The French centre-back has had problems in cementing a place at Stamford Bridge. He even spent a season on loan at Everton. However, Zouma has fought hard for regular football at Chelsea and is now a first-choice centre-back.
The 26-year-old has featured 12 times under Frank Lampard but things could have been different. Tottenham wanted to bolster their defence in the summer but saw their offer for Zouma being rejected (h/t Football.london).
Chelsea wanted €45m for the French international with Everton interested in his services too, according to the report. Zouma was also keen on joining either of the clubs and starting a new chapter in his career.
However, the asking price seemed to be too much for both parties and they landed targets from other clubs (h/t Football.london).
A busy summer for Mourinho
While we weren’t able to land another centre-back, Spurs did a pretty good job in picking up several targets.
Sergio Reguilon and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg have done well since joining in the summer. Gareth Bale returning on loan was another boost and we are yet to see the best of the Welshman.
Joe Rodon was signed from Swansea while Carlos Vinicius also joined us on loan. However, we are still a little short at the back after releasing Jan Vertonghen in the summer.
Juan Foyth was also sent on loan to Villarreal until the end of the campaign and Rodon is the only centre-back we signed.

Things have worked out well for us so far as we are second in the Premier League after eight games. We have just one loss to our name and have won four of our last five league games.
Jose Mourinho has worked magic previously, and we could have a great season if the boss keeps us going at the same pace.
