Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho banned by UEFA for one game
According to Football.london, UEFA have given a suspended one-match European competition ban for Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho.
The decision was made after the role Mourinho was adjudged to have played in the events that led to the kick-off being delayed for Spurs’ Europa League group stage match against Royal Antwerp last month. (h/t Football.london)
It was a frustrating night for the club as we fell 1-0 to our first loss since the opening day of the season against Everton. A furious Mourinho was deeply unhappy with the performance of his much-changed team.
In addition, Spurs have also been fined 25,000 euros for the late kick-off by UEFA’s control, ethics, and disciplinary body (CEDB). Tottenham also face a further 3,000 euros for a breach of UEFA’s equipment regulations. (h/t Football.london)
According to the report, the suspension is deferred for a probationary period of one year, starting from the date of the present decision. This will see Mourinho stay on the bench for the remainder of the Spurs’ Europa League campaign. That is provided he doesn’t breach the rules of his probation over the next 12 months.
It is fair to say that Mourinho will now have to play nice even if he disagrees with any on-pitch decisions. Given how animated he is on the sidelines, it could prove to be a real challenge.
