Toby Alderweireld opens up on the man-management style of Jose Mourinho
Speaking to Belgian publication Het Laatste Nieuws (h/t Daily Mail), Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld has revealed how manager Jose Mourinho can be tough but is a fair character and loyal to his players.
The Portuguese tactician took over the reins at Tottenham in November last year. Throughout his career, Mourinho has developed a reputation for being a tough manager who can be ruthless towards players who are out of favour under him.
It has been no different at Tottenham either, with Danny Rose bearing the brunt of it while Dele Alli also finds himself frozen out of the first-team picture.
Alderweirled, while acknowledging that the manager can be tough, has claimed that he can be very loyal if the players do what he asks of them. (h/t Daily Mail)
“Everyone has a certain idea about him and that he can be really tough. But if you work for him and run through fire, then he is really on your side. But if you are going to be annoying because you are not playing, he will push you aside.”
Alderweireld has been one of the beneficiaries under Mourinho at Tottenham. The Belgian international’s performances have improved, while he also signed a new long-term contract at the club.
