Davinson Sanchez could be allowed to leave by Tottenham in January

According to Football Insider (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur could be ready to offload Davinson Sanchez in the January transfer window, provided a new centre-back arrives at the club.

The 24-year-old Sanchez arrived at Tottenham from AFC Ajax in the summer of 2017, in a deal worth £42m – a club-record fee at the time. Having been a regular in the side over the past couple of years, the Colombian has lost his place in the side under Jose Mourinho, who seems to prefer the pairing of Toby Alderweireld and Eric Dier.

Davinson Sanchez has endured a difficult 2020/21 season

This has seen Sanchez start just in four of our nine Premier League matches. In fact, the 24-year-old hasn’t made the matchday squad for our last three league outings.

And now, it is being claimed that Tottenham could be open to the prospect of letting him leave on loan in January should a new defender come through the doors. (h/t Football.london)

We did strengthen our defence in the summer, with Joe Rodon arriving from EFL Championship side Swansea City. However, it seems like Jose Mourinho still wants to bolster the backline once the winter transfer window is open for business. (h/t Football.london)

And should the club be able to bring in someone in January, the option of sending Sanchez out on loan will be considered.

Considering that Sanchez hasn’t been a regular under Jose and hasn’t been all too convincing while playing, allowing him to leave does make sense. However, that must only be done if a replacement is secured, lest we risk running short on options at the back.
