Danny Mills tips Harry Winks to leave Tottenham Hotspur on loan

Speaking to Football Insider (h/t Football.london), Danny Mills has tipped Harry Winks to leave Tottenham Hotspur on loan in the January transfer window.

The 24-year-old has featured nine times this season, of which just four have come in the Premier League. (h/t Transfermarkt)

With the Euros set to be held next summer, a move away could help him secure his spot in the England squad, according to Mills. (h/t Football.london)

“Harry Winks needs to be playing to have a chance of getting in that England squad for the Euros.”

Mills believes Winks will find it hard to stake a claim to be in Tottenham’s starting lineup. Given the competition at the club, he will need to lift his game to secure more opportunities. (h/t Football.london)

The midfielder was not part of the squad that faced off against Manchester City yesterday. He also admitted while on international duty that his situation at the club is difficult at the moment. He is well aware of the need to play regularly or risk losing his spot for the Three Lions this summer. (h/t Football.london)

“In January he’s got to be looking at a move because you’ve got [Pierre-Emile] Hojbjerg who has come in with [Moussa] Sissoko and Ndombele who has turned things around with Mourinho.”

New signing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has hit the ground running since joining the club this summer. He has turned into a critical player who could be a key cog in Jose Mourinho’s setup.

Competition galore!

With Moussa Sissoko back fit and Tanguy Ndombele turning around his fortunes, Winks has some excellent competition to overcome. With the likes of Jack Grealish, Mason Mount, and Declan Rice all upping their games in recent weeks, Winks faces good competition at the international level as well.

Rather than a long-term option, Mills believes Winks should consider a loan way as a temporary solution. It will help him keep up with his match fitness while also keeping him in Gareth Southgate’s vision. (h/t Football.london)
