Harry Winks urged to join Newcastle United by Darren Bent
Speaking to Football Insider, as relayed by Football.london, former Tottenham Hotspur striker Darren Bent has urged Harry Winks to consider joining Newcastle United in the January transfer window.
Jose Mourinho has preferred to use summer signing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the middle of the park alongside the likes of Moussa Sissoko, Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso. This has led to limited opportunities for the England international.
Winks has played nine times for Tottenham this season in all competitions. While he has started all three of our Europa League group games, the 24-year-old has featured just once in Spurs’ four Premier League matches since October, that too coming on as a substitute against West Ham United.
While on international duty earlier this month, Winks hinted that he needed things to change if he wants to nail down a place in the England squad for the Euros next summer. And Bent has doubled down on those claims insisting that the 24-year-old cannot waste time ahead of a crucial year and a major tournament. (h/t Football.london)
“It’s one of them, you can’t afford it, in these years leading up to a major tournament, you can’t afford to waste time.”
Bent then went on to claim that there will be no shortage of suitors for Winks should he decide to move in January, stating that a move to Newcastle could suit the 24-year-old. (h/t Football.london)
“I think for Harry Winks, I think there will be takers for him, even at Newcastle. He could go to Newcastle and play so there will be options for him in January.”

Winks has found game time hard to come by this season. But given the packed fixture list and the number of games left in the season, his opportunities will come. The midfielder just needs to put his head down, keep working hard and make the most of the chances when they come his way.
