Speaking to the press (h/t football.london), Jose Mourinho provided an injury update on Argentine winger Erik Lamela.

Mourinho confirmed in the presser that Lamela would miss the weekend Premier League clash against Chelsea.

The Spurs boss was asked when Lamela would return, and the Portuguese confirmed that it would not be until the end of this week.

“Not this week. Not tomorrow or Sunday, I think I can say that. I would be very, very surprised if he said he was able to play Sunday so I will say not this week.”

Erik Lamela has started only 36 matches in the league for Tottenham since the start of the 2016/17 season and has been reduced to the role of a ‘super-sub’ by the club in the past few years.

The Argentine has already missed several games this campaign due to injury but has still managed to start in 5 matches in all competitions for the club, scoring twice. Thankfully for Mourinho, the club has ample cover in his absence.

Tottenham are 2nd in Group J of the UEFA Europa League and lead the Premier League table after gameweek 10. Mourinho returns to his old club on Sunday as Spurs face 3rd-placed Chelsea in the league at Stamford Bridge.

Spurs are on a 5-match winning run in all competitions since their defeat to Royal Antwerp in the Europa League and will be looking to extend the run to six this weekend as we challenge for their first league title since 1961.
