Tottenham face fresh competition from European giants for 20-year-old midfield star

Tottenham face Atletico Madrid competition for Dominik Szoboszlai

According to a report from Eurosport, as relayed by Daily Mail, Tottenham will have to face fresh competition from Atletico Madrid apart from Arsenal, AC Milan and RB Leipzig, in the race to sign Dominik Szoboszlai.

The 20-year-old has fastly established himself as one of the most sought-after young midfielders in Europe, putting up some sensational performances for Austrian outfit RB Salzburg over the past couple of years.

So far, the Hungarian international has featured 78 times for the club scoring 25 goals and registering 33 assists. Szoboszlai has been in brilliant form in the 2020/21 campaign so far, racking up eight goals and nine assists in 17 appearances across all competitions. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Szoboszlai’s exploits haven’t gone unnoticed with serious interest emanating in his services from the Premier League with both Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal eyeing a swoop for the 20-year-old. (h/t Daily Mail)

In addition, RB Leipzig, the sister club of RB Salzburg, as well as AC Milan are in the hunt for the Hungarian. And, as per latest reports, Atletico Madrid have also entered the fray to try and sign the versatile midfielder. However, it is claimed that Leipzig are currently leading the race for his signing. The report adds that RB Leipzig fully expect to land their man from Salzburg after having failed to recruit Erling Haaland from the same club last January.

Szoboszlai is certainly a special talent and adding him to our ranks would have been quite the coup. However, given the intense competition and Leipzig’s relationship with Salzburg could mean that the 20-year-old might not be coming to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
