Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg turned down four clubs in favour of Tottenham because of Jose Mourinho
According to a report from The Guardian, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg turned down four other clubs in favour of a summer transfer to Tottenham Hotspur because of Jose Mourinho.
The 25-year-old joined Tottenham Hotspur from fellow Premier League outfit Southampton in a deal worth £15m. And it is proving to be quite the coup for us as the Danish international has quickly become one of our best players this season, helping our rise to the top of the Premier League table.
Since joining the club, Hojbjerg has been one of Mourinho’s most-used players, having featured in 19 matches across all competitions. The Danish international has started each of our 11 Premier League games so far and played the whole ninety minutes in every one of those matches. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Given the quality that he possesses, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that there was a lot of interest in his services this past summer. Indeed, Premier League rivals Everton’s pursuit of Hojbjerg was no secret. At the same time, it is being claimed that Dutch giants Ajax were also keen, as were Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco. In addition to the aforementioned clubs, reigning German and European champions, Bayern Munich, the club where Hojbjerg spent his formative years, were also willing to sign him back. (h/t The Guardian)
However, the 25-year-old turned down all those clubs in favour of a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium due to the Jose Mourinho factor. (h/t The Guardian)
