Tottenham and Arsenal set to battle for AC Milan’s Franck Kessie

According to Italian publication Calciomercato, as relayed by the Mirror, London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are set to go head-to-head in the race to sign AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie.

The 23-year-old started out at the academy of Stella Club in his homeland Ivory Coast before joining Serie A side Atalanta in 2015. After a season-long loan stint at Cesena, Kessie became a regular at Atalanta and grew into one of the most promising youngsters in Serie A.

In 2017, AC Milan came calling, signing him on a two-year loan deal before making his transfer permanent last year. The midfielder has grown into the beating heart of this AC Milan side, and has been one of their best players this season as they sit at the top of the Serie A table.

Indeed, in 10 league appearances this term, Kessie has contributed with four goals and three assists, establishing himself as an indispensable member of Stefano Pioli’s side.

However, with Kessie set to enter the final year of his contract with the Rossoneri at the end of the season, Tottenham and Arsenal are monitoring his situation with a view to make a move in the summer. (h/t Mirror)

While we did strengthen our midfield with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s signing this summer, there are question marks over the future of Harry Winks. In addition, Moussa Sissoko would be 32 by the time the next season rolls in. Thus, bringing an all-action, dynamic midfielder like Kessie could be a shrewd move.

However, AC Milan have no intention of selling the 23-year-old and want to tie him down with a new contract. But should that fail, the Italians will demand £45m for his transfer.
