Tottenham Hotspur to launch a move to sign £72.5m Juventus star Paulo Dybala
According to Todofichajes (h/t The Express), Tottenham Hotspur are set to make their move to land Argentine superstar Paulo Dybala who is enjoying a rather forgetful season at Juventus.
This comes just a year after we failed to land him in the 2019 summer transfer window. The 27-year-old went on to enjoy a fruitful season under Maurizio Sarri as Juventus won the Serie A title. Dybala contributed an impressive 11 goals and assists apiece for the cause. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Missing out on the player was not due to a lack of effort from Spurs. We did everything in our power to land him, but a host of issues ensured he remained a bridge too far.
Dybala however has failed to recreate last season’s magic in the current campaign. In fact, he has managed just a solitary goal in 11 appearances and looks like a shadow of the player he truly is. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Dybala’s contract in Turin runs until 2022. Despite negotiations, both sides have failed to reach an agreement. With the talks hitting a barrier, he could be on his way out of the club.
According to the report, the breakdown in talks has seen the player request a transfer. While Spurs are eager to sign him on, they will have to contend with competition from PSG.
Juve are keen to recover £72.5million for Dybala’s services. A figure that is right up the alley for PSG but will be a club record for us if we so choose to meet it.
How serious PSG are about securing Dybala could depend on whether Kylian Mbappe stays or goes to Real Madrid. The Argentine could potentially link up with international teammate Mauro Icardi at the Parc des Princes.

According to an earlier report, Juventus are keen to bring income owing to the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic. Adding a player of Dybala’s quality to our squad would be one that makes our rivals sit up and take notice.
A truly world-class signing, the 27-year-old is in his prime and is, on his day, a dominant player. Whether we decide to take the plunge or not remains to be seen.
