Jurgen Klopp provides Joel Matip injury update ahead of Tottenham clash

As reported by the Mirror, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is hopeful that defender Joel Matip will be fit for the crunch clash against Tottenham on Wednesday.

Tottenham Hotspur face off against reigning champions Liverpool at Anfield in a top-of-the-table encounter in the Premier League later this week. Both teams are locked on the same number of points, with us being ahead of them in the table on goal difference.

Mourinho and Klopp will clash on Wednesday

Klopp’s side have been hit hard with injuries this season, especially in defence, where both Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez have been ruled out for the long-term. This has left the Reds with just Joel Matip as the senior centre-back with the likes of Fabinho, Nat Phillips, Rhys Williams filling in alongside him.

However, alarm bells were ringing after Matip had to come off with an injury at half-time during Liverpool’s 1-1 draw against Fulham on Sunday. However, Klopp is hopeful that the Cameroonian will be fit to face Tottenham later this week. (h/t Mirror)

“Joel has a spasm in his back. We will see. He will get treatment and we will see. I think there will be a chance for Wednesday. It’s not that bad at the moment.”

In addition to the aforementioned players, Liverpool are also without James Milner, Diogo Jota, Kostas Tsimikas, Xherdan Shaqiri and Thiago Alcantara against Tottenham. Even Naby Keita is a doubt for Wednesday’s clash.
