Tottenham advised to hold off on a new contract for Serge Aurier
Speaking to Football Insider (h/t Football.london), former Tottenham star Michael Brown has urged the club to hold off on a new contract for defender Serge Aurier.
The 27-year-old Aurier is in the final eighteen months of his current contract with the club. Following the signing of Matt Doherty in the summer, the right-back had dropped down the pecking order at Tottenham.
However, the Ivory Coast international has worked his way back into the starting XI, impressing with his performances against the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea over the last month.
This has led to talks of offering him a new contract at the club, but Brown is of the opinion that Spurs would be better served holding off on offering new terms for the time being. (h/t Football.london)
“I mean, for me, with 18 months left, I don’t know, I just don’t think there’s any rush for Spurs’ case until the end of the season.
“I just think, ‘keep everyone fighting, keep them on their toes, you’ve got another player in that position’, so 18 months is fine but if he gets a new deal, he’s obviously playing, he’s in and around and Spurs are in a good position.”

Aurier has certainly shown improvements in his performance, although he was a tad disappointing in the draw against Crystal Palace.
With the former PSG man’s contract running till the summer of 2022, there shouldn’t be any hurry from the club’s part to hand him a new deal.
