Sergio Reguilon ready to do his part to ensure Tottenham end trophy drought
According to Sky Sports, Spanish international left-back, Sergio Reguilon is keen to play his part in ensuring Tottenham Hotspur end their 12-year trophy drought.
Spurs’ last success in a major competition came in 2008 when they won the League Cup. Although we made it to the showpiece events of the League Cup in 2015 and the UEFA Champions League in 2019, we did not manage to win either.
With just two wins standing in the way of yet another League Cup final, Tottenham has a real shot at ending their drought this season. While there are no easy ties at this stage, we should be expected to see off Championship side Stoke City in the quarter-finals.
Despite joining Spurs this summer, Reguilon is well aware of the pain within the fanbase. He went on to reveal that the Tottenham squad too have the same desire to win trophies.
“Believe me, if the fans are keen to win a trophy, we have even more desire as players and as a squad.”
Unfazed by reputation
‘A cold and windy night in Stoke’ has become somewhat of a stereotype to the physical nature of the English game in recent years. Reguilon is well aware of it but is less than intimidated ahead of our trip to the Bet365 Stadium.
“From watching the Premier League, I am aware of their reputation and know what it is supposed to be like to play there from watching their games.”
The 24-year-old is ready to do his part and put up a fight if called upon. Reguilon has been one of our standout buys from the summer and has displaced Ben Davies as our first-choice left-back.
“I will jump for every aerial challenge and run to make every tackle and fight for every ball.”

Stoke are not the team of old who bully teams physically. They have of late shown an aptitude for defence by conceding just three goals in the last seven games. They will present a challenge to the Spurs attack that has scored just once in its last two games.
Thankfully, Mourinho is not taking the match for granted. With the Portuguese at the helm and players like Reguilon on the field, we could have much to celebrate come to the end of the season.
