Jose Mourinho has his say on Tottenham Hotspur’s chances in the Carabao Cup
Speaking ahead of his team’s Carabao Cup quarter-final clash against Stoke City (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has insisted that they will be going all out to lift the trophy as he bids to end the club’s silverware drought.
Tottenham have made it to the last-eight stages of the competition after beating London rivals Chelsea on penalties. And Mourinho, who has tasted plenty of success in the League Cup, has claimed that his team will be pushing to go all the way, but has accepted it might be easier said than done.
“To win this tournament we need to win three matches. One against Stoke and then, if we beat Stoke, we will have two more matches to play. Against teams who have the same ambitions as we have.”
“If I am not wrong, Man City, Arsenal, Man United. Everton, Newcastle, Brentford, everybody wants the same. The difference between Championship and Premier League is minimal. The teams are very good, they have very good players and have very good coaches. It is a difficult competition to win.”
Tottenham go into the game on Wednesday night having not won their last three fixtures in a row in the Premier League. Mourinho, though, downplayed the recent run of results, claiming that the team needs to go into the game with a positive attitude.
“It has nothing to do with the match we lost or the match we have to play against Wolves next weekend. It is isolated. It is a cup game. It is a game to go to the semi-finals or watch the semi-finals on TV. We have to go with a positive attitude and try to win.”
