Glenn Hoddle demands Gareth Bale to push himself after a slow start
As reported by Football.london, former Tottenham Hotspur manager Glenn Hoddle has urged Gareth Bale to push himself physically and mentally after a slow start to life at the club.
Bale sealed a return to Tottenham this past summer, seven years after having left the club for Real Madrid. The 31-year-old signed on a season-long loan deal but has struggled to make the kind of impact that was expected of him.
Fitness issues have hampered him, no doubt, but even when on the fit, the Welsh wing wizard has lacked that bit of spark. And Hoddle has claimed that Tottenham fans will not get to see the same Bale that left the club seven years ago and tasted success in Spain.
“I always said when he came back that I do not think we should expect anywhere near the same Gareth Bale that left Tottenham or achieved what he did at Real Madrid. Do not forget that he has not actually been playing in the main Spurs team. Jose Mourinho has not seen enough from him and I have not seen enough from him.”
Hoddle then went on to add that Bale has had enough time to work on his fitness and it is now up to him push himself mentally and kick on. (h/t Football.london)
“Gareth has had time to get fit and has got fitter, so I do not think it is his fitness now. He has to push himself more, physically and mentally, and he could be like a brand new player waiting to join this Tottenham squad. He has just been on the periphery and he has to be a little bit more.”
