Jose Mourinho takes with him a strong Tottenham squad to face Stoke City
According to Football.london, Jose Mourinho has selected a strong Tottenham squad for today’s Carabao Cup quarter-final clash against Championship side Stoke City.
The Portuguese tactician had earlier claimed that a mixed side would take the field for the match. Spurs are just two wins away from making the showpiece final at Wembley. The League Cup was the last major trophy we won, all the way back in 2008.
Mourinho has so far chosen to preserve his best players for the Premier League. Spurs have often faced weaker sides in the Europa League and the League Cup.
Youngsters Jack Clarke and Harvey White have also been included in the squad. It remains to be seen if either of them will make the line-up for today. Out-of-favour Portuguese starlet Gedson Fernandes has also been included in the team. With the 21-year-old touted to return to Benfica in January, it remains to be seen if tonight’s match will serve as his Spurs swansong.
Tottenham go into the game on the back of two successive Premier League defeats. One worrying aspect seen in those games was the fatigue shown by the likes of Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min. Both players are pivotal to our attack and could do with a breather.
While Mourinho did not give away any names, he did admit that a few of our key players could find themselves rested for tonight’s clash. The likes of Matt Doherty, Davinson Sanchez, Gareth Bale and Lucas Moura could all start tonight’s game.
