Jose Mourinho awaits green light to make two signings in January window
Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast (h/t Express), journalist Duncan Castles has claimed that Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho is waiting for a green light to make two new signings in January.
Tottenham enjoyed a productive summer transfer window during which as many as seven players came in. The club signed Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Joe Hart, Matt Doherty, Sergio Reguilon and Joe Rodon on permanent deals while Gareth Bale and Carlos Vinicius joined on loan.
The smart recruitment has helped Mourinho & co. start the season on a strong note, helping the club establish themselves as credible challengers for the Premier League title.
However, if Castles is to be believed, Mourinho is still not done with his recruitment for the season. The manager has his eyes on two more additions in the January window. (h/t Express)
“Although Levy has told operators in the transfer market that he’s ready to spend, from what I understand Mourinho hasn’t got the green light yet as to what the budget will be and which of those positions that he’s identified as being crucial to broaden the tactical options of the team [he can bring in].
[The positions are] a box-to-box midfielder who’s more capable of knitting the play than the options they have at present, and a fast left-footed centre-back who will allow them to play with a higher line against stronger opposition. So he’s waiting to hear on that.”

Having lost Jan Vertonghen in the summer, the club do lack a left-footed centre-half. And, a box-to-box midfielder would also be a good addition to complement our current options. It will be interesting to see whether Levy gives the go-ahead on the deals.
