Frank Lampard furious over Chelsea schedule compared to Tottenham and Liverpool

As reported by Football.london, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has hit out at the scheduling of fixtures, comparing his side’s calendar to that of Tottenham and Liverpool.

Lampard is unhappy that three of Chelsea’s title rivals – Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester United have been given an additional 24 hours rest between games this week.

The Blues are penned in to play Arsenal on Saturday before they face off against Aston Villa on Monday night. In comparison, Manchester United played Leicester on Saturday but won’t take the field until Tuesday night.

Tottenham and Liverpool, on the other hand, will both take on Wolves and West Brom and on Sunday, respectively, before facing Fulham and Newcastle on Wednesday night.

Chelsea, meanwhile, had their request to postpone their fixture against Villa by 24 hours, turned down. This has left Lampard enraged, who insisted that the demands being placed on the players are not acceptable.

“The fact it’s two games in 48 hours is an important point for us because there are other teams who are challenging at the top of the League that play two games in three days.

“Manchester United, Tottenham, Liverpool play two games in three days. It’s counter-productive for the quality of the Premier League, it’s a risk for players if they are going to play both games at the top-end elite sport, everybody knows that.”

Lampard further went on to add that this scheduling, to accommodate the broadcasters, isn’t a level playing field as some of the other teams are getting a day’s extra rest than his players.

Chelsea head into the Boxing Day matchweek in fifth place, level on points with Tottenham, but ahead on goal difference.
