Steven Bergwijn believes Tottenham can end trophy drought this season

Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur winger Steven Bergwijn has claimed that the club has the chance to end their trophy drought in the ongoing season.

Tottenham made a flying start to the season and were briefly sitting at the top of the Premier League table. However, a couple of poor results over the past week has seen Jose Mourinho’s side slip down to the sixth spot.

Having said that, only three points separate us from Leicester City in the second place. So, a couple of good results in the festive season could put us right back near Liverpool. In addition, Tottenham have also qualified to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup and are through to the UEFA Europa League knockout stages as well.

So, the belief within the squad, irrespective of the recent results in the league, seems to be high and Bergwijn thinks that the team go on to achieve something this term.

“Last season was difficult because we had a lot of injuries and we finished sixth, a lot of points behind Liverpool and many clubs. Now we are in the race and everybody knows that we can achieve something with each other. We have a big manager, of course, who has won a lot of trophies. Now we want to win trophies as well.”

Speaking of the recent run of results in the Premier League, Bergwijn stressed that it is important for the team to stick together.

“It is very important that we stick together. In football, these things [bad runs of form] happen in a season and it is still the beginning of the season. We have a lot of games left to play.”

Up next for Bergwijn and Tottenham is a trip to the Molineux to take on Wolves. It is imperative that we pick up all three points against the Midlands’ club.
