Tottenham’s interest in Marcel Sabitzer confirmed by Christian Falk
According to reputed German journalist Christian Falk, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Marcel Sabitzer from RB Leipzig, with the midfielder’s contract expiring in 2022.
Sabitzer has been a key member of the RB Leipzig side since joining the club in 2014. The 26-year-old impressed heavily in the 2019/20 season, playing a crucial role in the club’s third-place finish in Bundesliga and the semi-final run in the UEFA Champions League.
In 44 appearances across all competitions, the Austrian international plundered 16 goals and created 11 more, despite playing in a central midfield role for a large part of the season. He has started the new campaign fairly well as well, bagging three goals and three assists in 15 games so far. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Sabitzer had been linked with a move to Tottenham in the summer but a transfer didn’t materialise. Recent reports from Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo (h/t Daily Mail) also claimed that the north London giants were keen on signing the 26-year-old.
Now, Falk has backed those claims, insisting that Tottenham’s interest in the midfielder is very much true. The journalist further adds that Sabitzer’s contract expires in 2022. And RB Leipzig are finding it difficult to raise his current salary. This could potentially lead to the club cashing in on him in the near future.

Sabitzer is a quality operator who would provide a sense of dynamism to our midfield unit. The Austrian has proven himself at the highest level over the past couple of years. His ability to score and create and his work-ethic would make him an ideal fit into the team.
