Jose Mourinho rules Erik Lamela out of Carabao Cup clash against Brentford
As reported by Football.london, Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Erik Lamela will not be involved in the Carabao Cup semi-final clash against Brentford.
The Argentine international landed himself in hot soup after pictures of him celebrating Christmas with teammates Sergio Reguilon, Giovani Lo Celso and West Ham United star Manuel Lanzini came out last week. It was a serious breach of Covid-19 regulations put in place by the Government.
After the incident came to light, Tottenham issued a statement condemning the players’ actions. Lamela was then left out of the matchday squad for our home game against Leeds United, while Lo Celso is still recovering from an injury. Reguilon did make the bench but was an unused substitute.
Tottenham face off against Brentford in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night. And manager Mourinho has confirmed that he will not be calling upon Lamela for the fixture. Ahead of the game, Mourinho was quizzed over the availability, to which he responded:
“Not available. Not available.”
When pushed further if it was because of the Christmas incident, the Portuguese tactician said:
“It’s not for me to tell you…..I just tell you that against Brentford he cannot play.”

Both Lamela and Lo Celso issued apologies through their social media accounts for what went on. With Lo Celso injured and Lamela being ruled out, it will be interesting to see whether Mourinho uses Reguilon or not against Brentford.
