Tottenham put Harry Kane and Son Heung-min contract talks on hold
According to the Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur have put new contract talks for prolific attacking duo Harry Kane and Son Heung-min on hold during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Reports of a new contract for Son have been doing the rounds for quite some time now. The 28-year-old has been in red-hot form this season and the club are keen on rewarding the South Korean with a contract deserving of his standing within the club.
In fact, manager Jose Mourinho confirmed that the club were indeed looking to hand Son a new deal. However, the Portuguese insisted that talks were progressing slowly due to the situation because of the pandemic.
Now, the aforementioned report is claiming that Spurs have put any non-urgent contract talks on hold including that of Son’s. The same goes for the South Korean’s strike partner Harry Kane as well.
Reports this past weekend claimed that the Lilywhites were intent on handing the England captain a new long-term deal amid interest from Manchester City. However, with his current deal running till 2024, the club are now putting off talks until the current situation eases.
The club’s revenues have been severely affected by the pandemic, forcing the hierarchy to take this stance on the contract situations. Tottenham posted a £63.9m loss for the last financial year.
