Jose Mourinho issues Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg injury update after Brentford game

As reported by Football.london, Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has issued an injury update on midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg after the Carabao Cup semi-final against Brentford.

The Danish international was on the receiving end of a horrific tackle by the Bees’ midfielder Josh Dasilva. The contact left Hojbjerg bleeding and saw the Brentford man getting sent off.

Speaking after the game, Mourinho revealed that Hojbjerg’s shin pad was broken following the tackle and he had a big cut. But, the Portuguese insisted that the summer signing should be okay to play against Marine FC at the weekend in the FA Cup.

“It was for sure a bad tackle because he is bleeding a lot and the shin pad is broken. That is football. Mike Dean made the decision on VAR so everything is fine and correct. Pierre has a big cut but he didn’t even want me to play Tanganga in the last five minutes so I believe he can be OK for the weekend.”

Indeed, despite picking up a gruesome-looking injury, Hojbjerg tried to rush back onto the field and had to be restrained. However, it is good news that his condition isn’t very bad, as revealed by Mourinho.

Taking to social media after the game, Dasilva apologised for the tackle, insisting that it was unintentional. Hojbjerg responded with a classy tweet, in which he claimed that he was a ‘Viking’.
