Tottenham among clubs monitoring Manchester United ace Jesse Lingard
According to ESPN, Tottenham Hotspur are among a plethora of clubs keeping an eye on the situation of Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard.
A product of the Manchester United youth academy, Lingard had grown into an important player for them under Jose Mourinho. However, the England international has been on a torrid run of form over the past couple of years. This has led to a swift fall from grace for the midfielder, who has now been reduced to a peripheral figure in the squad.
Indeed, Lingard has made just three appearances in all competitions this term and hasn’t started a Premier League game in a very long while. This has led to speculations over his future at the club, although Manchester United triggered a one-year contract extension in his deal.
Lingard is keen on securing an exit from Manchester United this month, even if it is a temporary one. This is because he wants to play regularly and make his way back into the England squad for the European Championships later this year.
However, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reluctant to sanction an exit as he wants to have plenty of depth in the squad, as they prepare for an unlikely tilt at the title. This situation surrounding Lingard has piqued the interest of several clubs including Tottenham.
As mentioned earlier, Lingard was a key player for United under Mourinho, with the Englishman playing some of his best football under the current Spurs boss. So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that murmurs of a potential reunion or doing the rounds.

Apart from Tottenham, fellow PL clubs Sheffield United and West Ham United are also keen. Furthermore, the likes of Inter Milan, Porto, Nice and Marseille are also keeping tabs.
Given that the Englishman has been on the decline for a while now, a move for Lingard this month doesn’t make much of sense. However, in the eventuality that Dele Alli leaves, Lingard could potentially add some depth in the attacking midfield position.
