Leicester City pull the plug on Inter Milan’s Christian Eriksen due to his massive wage

A report by The Telegraph (subscription required) [h/t LeicestershireLive] claims that Leicester City are no longer in interested in former Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen. The reason seems to be his huge wage packet at Inter.

Eriksen has been linked with a return to Tottenham Hotspur. Aston Villa are the other Premier League said to be interested in the Danish playmaker.

However, his £300,000-a-week wages at Inter has scared Leicester away from any potential loan deal. Any such deal would require the Serie A side to pay some portion of his wages too.

Nevertheless, Tottenham would have one less team to compete with for his signature.

One less rival to worry about

It is understandable why the 2016 Premier League champions are turning their heads away from Eriksen. If they sign him, his wages would surpass the salary that Kasper Schmeichel and Jamie Vardy earn at the club; which is around £100,000-a-week.

Eriksen left Spurs in January 2020 for Inter Milan. He also had the opportunity to play under Jose Mourinho for a couple of months before leaving.

However, his move to Serie A turned out to be a disaster. The 28-year-old is yet to score a goal or provide an assist this season.

A potential return to Tottenham could rejuvenate him and Mourinho would also have a reliable midfielder in his ranks.

Whether Spurs decide to sign him remains to be seen. But there is no hiding that a playmaker like Eriksen could prove to be the missing piece to drive us to some silverware at the end of the season.
