Ben Davies claims he hates to face Steven Bergwijn in training
According to Football.london, Tottenham Hotspur defender Ben Davies has claimed that he does not enjoy going up against teammate Steven Bergwijn during training sessions.
The 23-year-old Bergwijn arrived at Tottenham in January last year from Dutch club PSV Eindhoven. The winger made an immediate impact at the club, scoring on his Premier League debut against Manchester City.
Since then, he has racked up 36 appearances for the Lilywhites, scoring three goals and setting up six more. And Davies has revealed that he does not enjoy facing him in training while praising the Netherlands international for being a top player.
“Another one I don’t really like facing in training. I remember on his first day he came in and looked a top player. From the moment he came in he brought real energy and fitted straight into the team. When he scored that goal against City (exhales and shakes his head).”
Bergwijn made a solid start to life at Tottenham. However, the 23-year-old forward has struggled to find the back of the net this term. Indeed, the former PSV winger is yet to score a single goal this term. Although, he does have five assists from 20 games across all competitions. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Nevertheless, he continues to enjoy the faith of manager Jose Mourinho, owing to the work-rate that the Dutchman brings to the table.
