Marseille reject ‘weak’ Aston Villa offer for Tottenham target Morgan Sanson
Speaking to French TV channel Telefoot Chaine (h/t Daily Mail), Marseille manager Andre Villas-Boas has confirmed that the club has rejected an offer for Tottenham target Morgan Sanson from Aston Villa.
The 26-year-old midfielder played a key role as Marseille finished second in Ligue 1 last season and has once again been impressive in the 2020/21 campaign.
Tottenham had been credited with an interest in the Frenchman last summer, with the club said to be still keen on him. However, Aston Villa had also entered the race to sign Sanson from Marseille, along with Arsenal. (h/t Daily Mail)
Now, Villas-Boas has confirmed that Villa indeed made an offer for the Frenchman, which the club dismissed as ‘pathetic’.
“We had a very, very weak offer from Aston Villa which we turned down. It was pathetic. I hope that he (Sanson) continues to remain professional.”
Sanson, in 19 games for Marseille this term, contributing with two goals and three assists. A player who can make vital contributions in attack as well as in defence, the 26-year-old can be a good asset to the team and an upgrade over someone like Moussa Sissoko.

With Sanson’s contract up for expiry in less than eighteen months, he could be available on a bargain price as well. So, it will be interesting to see if Tottenham react to Villa’s offer and make a bid of their own or decide to wait out till the summer, or pursue a different target altogether.
