Real Madrid considering buying back Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham
According to Spanish publication Sport (h/t Football.london), reigning La Liga champions Real Madrid are considering the prospect of re-signing Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham in the summer.
Tottenham signed Reguilon from Real Madrid in the summer for a fee of around £27.5m. Since joining the club, the Spanish international has been a huge hit. Till date, the 24-year-old has turned out 20 times for us, bagging five assists in the process.
Reguilon has made a brilliant impression in his short time at Tottenham. The Spanish international has been a rock-solid defender while he has been no short of attacking intent as well.
Now, Real Madrid are said to be considering the possibility of signing him back in the summer. It is claimed that Los Blancos have inserted a buyback clause inserted in the deal when they sold Reguilon to Tottenham. The clause, which stands at €45m, can be triggered in the summer of 2021 or in the summer of 2022.
And, Los Blancos are seriously considering taking up that option in the summer later this year. However, the report does add that any move would hinge on Reguilon’s willingness to return to the Santiago Bernabeu – something he is unlikely to do unless he is a guaranteed starter like he is in north London. Indeed, Zinedine Zidane has Ferland Mendy as his preferred option at left-back while Marcelo is a backup. And even though the latter has been on the decline, Reguilon would still have to compete with Zidane’s fellow countryman for a starting berth at Real Madrid.
It remains to be seen if Real Madrid decide to trigger that clause come summer.
