Tottenham approach Angel Di Maria over a potential free transfer in the summer
According to French publication L’Equipe (h/t Daily Mail), Tottenham Hotspur have made contact with PSG superstar Angel Di Maria over the possibility of signing him in the summer.
Di Maria has been one of the top wingers in the game over the past decade. The 32-year-old played three years under the tutelage of Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid and the Portuguese tactician is now eyeing a reunion with the Argentine.
The 32-year-old has been with PSG since 2015, having joined them after a failed stint in England with Manchester United. During his time at the club, the Argentine has amassed 243 appearances, scoring 86 goals and setting up 102 more. (h/t Transfermarkt)
However, his contract with the French champions is set to expire at the end of the season, sparking interest from a host of top clubs across Europe, including Tottenham. In fact, the Lilywhites are already said to have made an approach to try and secure Di Maria’s signing on a free transfer later this year. (h/t Daily Mail)
PSG, though, are hopeful of agreeing on a new contract with the veteran star. The Parisian outfit failed in their bid to tie him down to a new deal last year but will persist in their attempts to secure his future. Di Maria is said to be happy in France and is looking for a two-year contract from the club.
However, if that fails, Tottenham would be a potential destination for the versatile midfielder who won the UEFA Champions League in 2013/14 with Real Madrid. Di Maria shares a good equation with Jose Mourinho and has previously praised the Portuguese tactician.
