Alasdair Gold issues update on Tottenham Hotspur’s Angel Di Maria pursuit
According to Football.london’s Alasdair Gold, Tottenham Hotspur have not discussed PSG superstar Angel Di Maria as a potential signing amid speculations of a move for the Argentine international.
Reports on Tuesday claimed that Tottenham Hotspur were plotting a swoop for the 32-year-old versatile winger as he nears the expiry of his contract with the French champions. It was even claimed that Spurs had already established contact with Di Maria over the possibility of a move at the end of the season. (h/t Daily Mail)
Di Maria played under the tutelage of Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid. The pair tasted plenty of success in Spain before parting ways. And with the 32-year-old set to become a free agent when the season is over, a potential reunion between the two had been mooted.
However, Gold has dismissed any such notions, insisting that Tottenham have never discussed making a move for the South American superstar. To some extent, it makes sense considering that Di Maria will soon be turning 33 years old and had endured a torrid time in England during his year-long stint with Manchester United.
Furthermore, his wages could have proven to be problematic as well. The former Real Madrid star is currently on a salary of £220,000 per week. And, he turned down a new proposal from PSG because they insisted he take a cut on his current wages. (h/t Daily Mail)
So, it is unlikely that he would be willing to do so at Tottenham either.

On the flipside, Tottenham would get a bonafide superstar, who has won a host of titles and trophies for a free transfer. It remains to be seen if the club does consider making a move for the Argentine at the end of the season.
