Blow for Tottenham Hotspur as Eduardo Camavinga looks set to extend his stay at Rennes
According to Football.london, Tottenham have been handed a massive blow in their pursuit of French wonderkid Eduardo Camavinga.
The 18-year-old is one of the finest young midfielders in Europe. Already a regular for Rennes, he has also made his bow for the French national team. Given the riches of talents the world champions possess, it is no mean feat.
Camavinga’s current deal expires in June 2022. This can leave Rennes on a free next summer. The prospect of landing a potential superstar for nothing has attracted attention from a number of top sides across the continent, including Tottenham.
Spurs and Arsenal were leading the race to bring the youngster across the channel to England. There were hopes that Rennes would be forced to cash in this summer if Camavinga failed to pen an extension.
Any hopes of making a move for the player was dashed by Camavinga himself who admitted he is likely to fresh terms and stay put at Rennes. He confirmed that negotiations are ongoing but are yet to reach a breakthrough.
“Could I sign an extension? Yes. Do I want to? Yes. What is holding it up? I don’t know, there are negotiations. It is you (the journalists) who have been talking about me leaving but I am focused on the club.”
The youngster also went on to add that all the chatter of him talking is just journalists making stories up. He admits that he remains firmly focussed on his club. It would appear that this is one player we can stop chasing.

Camavinga’s decision to stay put at Rennes is understandable. At just 18, he has a long way to go in his career. Staying put and developing himself before moving on will ensure he is ready to face the challenges that await him at a bigger club.
Whether that will be Tottenham remains to be seen.
