Harry Kane injured against Liverpool

Jose Mourinho reveals Tottenham star Harry Kane is ruled out for a few weeks

Speaking to BT Sports (h/t Express), Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has revealed that star striker Harry Kane will miss a few weeks of action after an injury to his ankle against Liverpool.

Spurs got off to an excellent start when Son Heung-Min put us ahead early on. The goal was unfortunately ruled out for offside and it was as good as it got for us in the first half.

It got off to a poor end after Kane who was struggling to move was taken off for Erik Lamela at the break. The 27-year-old has a history of ankle injuries and the latest setback is worrying.

“He is injured in both ankles.”

Mourinho admitted that Kane injured both his ankles. While one of them was due to a tackle by Thiago Alcantara, the Spurs striker has only himself to blame for the other. Backing into players while challenging for an aerial ball is always a risky tactic and yesterday night, it backfired on Kane.

“The first was a bad tackle, it was Thiago, the second one I didn’t know well. But two injuries in both ankles, the second one worst than the first one.”

The Spurs boss admitted that he had no choice but to take Kane off at half-time. The striker was sore and in much pain, making the substitution a necessity.

“Very sore and very painful. He just couldn’t, it was difficult for him.”

Mourinho went on to add that Kane will be out for a few weeks. Given how dependent we are on both him and Son for goals, it could prove to be a massive blow.

Having Kane ruled out in the second half of a season is not something Spurs aren’t accustomed to. However, unlike previous times, we do have a back-up striker this time to call upon.

Hopefully, Carlos Vinicius will make the most of his opportunities and make both ours and Mourinho’s life easier.
