Harry Redknapp slams Jose Mourinho for not using Carlos Vinicius against Liverpool
Speaking to Stadium Astro (h/t Express), former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has criticised Jose Mourinho for not utilising Brazilian striker Carlos Vinicius in the game against Liverpool.
Tottenham were in need of a striker midway through the game as Harry Kane had to be withdrawn after he picked up an injury in the first half. Instead of going in with Vinicius, Jose Mourinho opted to send on Erik Lamela, which hasn’t gone down too well with Redknapp.
The ex-Spurs boss has been told by those within the club that Vinicius is a top striker, so he has found it baffling that opportunities haven’t been forthcoming for him.
“They tell me the Brazilian boy is a fantastic player, the centre-forward. Maybe it’s a chance to play him now, even at half time they could have stuck him up top and played him up there at half time, rather than bringing on Lamela and Winks.
“Go and stick him up there, 1-0 down. Perhaps he needs a run this boy, he might be the answer. You don’t know until he gets the chance.”

Having arrived on loan from SL Benfica, Vinicius has done fairly well in the limited opportunities that have come his way. The 25-year-old has scored six goals and set up three more in 14 games. That includes a hat-trick against Marine AFC in the FA Cup.
With Kane injured, hopefully, the Brazilian gets an extended run in the side now and he proves himself at this level.
