Tottenham target Christian Eriksen set for Inter Milan stay

Speaking to DAZN (h/t Sky Sports), Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta has confirmed that Christian Eriksen will not be leaving the club on the transfer deadline day. The midfielder had been linked with a return to Tottenham.

The 28-year-old left Spurs for Inter Milan last January, but has found it difficult to adapt to his new surroundings. This has led to speculations that the Danish international could be on the move in the winter window, with Tottenham being linked with a move for him. (h/t Express)

However, Eriksen has been on a road to redemption of late, scoring a late winner against local rivals AC Milan in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals. That was followed by another impactful display against Benevento at the weekend. Now, Marotta has dismissed any chances of the Dane leaving the club on deadline day.

“As Antonio Conte said, if there are some players who are unhappy and want to find other clubs, it’s not right to withhold them. We do not have any of those situations. Therefore, this is the squad we will have at our disposal until the end of the season.”

This is likely to come as a blow for Tottenham, who have been crying out loud for more creative presence in the final third.

Furthermore, Eriksen’s stay at Inter Milan could have a ripple effect on the future of his ex-Spurs teammate Dele Alli. The England international is seeking an exit from the club this month amid interest from PSG. However, Tottenham were prepared to let him leave only if the club was able to bring in Eriksen as a replacement. (h/t Mirror)
