Jose Mourinho believes there’s more to come from Carlos Vinicius

According to Football.london, Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has claimed that he expects better things from on-loan striker Carlos Vinicius in the second half of the season.

The 25-year-old joined Tottenham on loan from Benfica in the summer but hasn’t been a regular in the lineup. He has made 15 appearances in all competitions so far, scoring six goals and setting up three more. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Mourinho has admitted that it was always going to be difficult for the Brazilian to make the adaptation from Portuguese to English football and with Harry Kane as the first-choice game-time was always going to be hard for the striker.

“I also believe it’s not easy and you have to be a special group guy in a club where you are a No.9 and the other No.9 is Harry Kane. You know that you have immediately a big disadvantage. So you need to be a special guy and a group guy, which is what he is. He’s playing when we want him to play and he’s always giving his best.”

The Portuguese tactician then went on to insist that there is plenty more to come from Vinicius as we enter the busy second half of the season.

“We cannot expect Carlos to interact with Sonny with the same tactical principles that Harry does, but he’s a good player, a good guy. We’re very happy to have him. He’s been useful and he will be even more useful for us in the second half of the season.”

With Kane ruled out for another week, it will be interesting to see if Vinicius gets the nod against Chelsea later tonight. The 25-year-old showed positive signs after coming on as a sub against Brighton last week and has what it takes to make a difference against the Blues.
