Tottenham make £100,000 donation to a local hospital from players’ lockdown fines

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham have made a donation of £100,000 to a local hospital from fines collected from players who broke COVID regulations.

During the Christmas period, it emerged that three of our players – Giovani Lo Celso, Sergio Reguilon and Erik Lamela had broken the coronavirus guidelines put in place by the Government. The trio was pictured in a large party which was prohibited in London, which was under tier-four regulations.

After the incident came to light, Tottenham had sanctioned the players. And now, the club has donated the fines collected from the players to a local hospital as a ‘Thank You’ initiative, which will fund gift vouchers to staff who have been working through the Covid-19 pandemic.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy issued a statement following the donation, in which he said:

“The club always ring-fences player fine money for good causes and we can think of no better cause to donate these funds to than North Mid’s ‘Thank You’ initiative for staff.

“NHS staff across the country continue to make sacrifices and put themselves at risk every day to save lives and we hope this contribution will go some way towards providing the recognition that these heroes deserve.”

Throughout these difficult times, Tottenham have stood up and provided support to the NHS workers in any way the club can, from allowing the usage of the stadium as a hospital during lockdown to helping deliver food to those in need. The underground car park was also used as a COVID testing centre.
